Body Jewelry Draws Attention Above The Neck

Body jewelry above the neckline encompasses so much more than just earrings. With the piercing options available today, you can draw attention to your face in a variety of attractive ways.

Piercing has been around for centuries. Today's procedures, when done by a professional, are safe and relatively painless which may be the reason people are exploring this for so many areas of the body especially the face.

The most accepted location for piercing continues to be the ears. No one even thinks twice about having this done and it is popular with women, men and children (even babies) alike. Some people take it beyond one hole and move all the way up the ear lobe and around or even to the tragus (the flap at the opening of the ear). Additionally, stretching the lobe is becoming more in vogue. Because of its prevalence, you have the widest selection of body jewelry to choose from for your ears.

After the ears, the nose and eyebrows have become increasingly popular choices. The nose, of course, requires diligent aftercare because of all the bacteria found there. A nose ring or post is usually located on the side but you will also see these in the septum area (between the two nostrils). Eyebrow jewelry is very fashionable and can be placed anywhere along the brow although you will usually see it near the outer edges. Don't go without jewelry for more than 48 hours as this is one spot that can close up quickly.

The mouth area offers a multitude of places to pierce. There is the labret (above chin, below lip), monroe (off center of the upper lip, named after Marilyn Monroe), angel or snake bites (opposite sides of the upper lip), smiley (upper frenulum above two front teeth) and frowny (like the smiley but located near the bottom teeth). Some people are also piercing their cheeks and places inside the mouth such as the tongue.

Body jewelry available for these piercings include rings, posts, barbells and studs. Some places lend themselves to dangling body jewelry such as the eyebrow or ear. Others like the nose and mouth area are more suited to posts or studs.
