Belly Button Rings Cross The Age And Gender Lines

Belly button rings once drew piercings out into the common sight of the world. They are now crossing new lines. Those are the lines of age and gender.

When first brought into the mainstream in the 1990's, belly button rings were seen mainly on women in their early twenties to thirties. Occasionally you would see one on a teenager, but more likely than not she just looked young.

Today belly button rings are not only for the young women. With today's population getting in and staying in better shape longer, more and more older women are having the confidence to bare their tummies.

And they don't just want to bare their stomachs; they want people to notice them. This is where belly button rings come into play. After months of hard work getting a gorgeously toned stomach, most women want to set it off with the perfect jewel. And after all, they deserve the attention after all that pain and work.

Now let's not forget about the men. With lines blurring between what is a "male" thing and what is a "female" thing, it isn't surprising that belly button rings have crossed over.

While still not seen every day, it is becoming more common to see men with their navels pierced. And just like the piercings began with young women, it seems to be mainly young men who are jumping on this wagon.

Take a walk on the beach in the summer and I am sure you will see several young men flaunting belly button rings. While their rings may be subtler than the average woman's, they are no less attractive. Nor are they there for any other reason. Just like women want to flaunt their toned stomachs and show off their hard work, men want to do the same.

As the lines continue to blur, belly button rings have become the next in a long line of things that are now common for either sex. They are in good company with nail polish, and mascara.
